Janna Ryan?s husband has been the talk of the nation since Mitt Romney announced 42-year-old congressman Paul Ryan as his pick for vice presidential running mate. But while little may be known by many about the Wisconsin congressman, even less is known about his wife, Janna Ryan. We wanted to get to know a little more about the wife, mother and yes, former lobbyist. Here are some facts compiled by our own Brainroom.

Life Before Paul:

• Janna grew up in the tiny town of Madill, Okla., where the population is 3,781.
• Her father served on the University of Oklahoma board of regents, and her late mother, Prudence, also was involved in civic life, sitting on the Oklahoma Ethics Commission.
• She studied Spanish at Wellesley College, outside of Boston, which U.S. News ranked as the nation?s sixth best liberal arts college in 2012. Famous alumnae include Secretaries of State Hillary Clinton and Madeline Albright, ABC News anchor Diane Sawyer and correspondent Cokie Roberts.
• She earned her law degree from George Washington University and after graduation worked as a tax attorney and lobbyist for PricewaterhouseCoopers and then for Williams & Jensen.
• During her three years as a lobbyist, Ryan fought primarily for health-related clients, such as Blue Cross Blue Shield Health Insurance Company and the American Physical Therapy Association.
• Additionally, from 1998 to 2000, Ryan was part of a small team that lobbied the House, Senate and White House on behalf of the Cigar Association of America to exclude cigars from many of the same regulations placed on cigarettes, like warning labels and excise taxes.

Paul and Janna

• The Ryans were introduced to each other by a mutual friend in Washington in 1999.
• In an April 2000 article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel about their engagement, Paul Ryan bragged that Janna had shared a deer stand with him when he shot a buck as hunting season opened.
• He proposed to her at one of his favorite fishing spots, Big St. Germain Lake in Wisconsin, and they married in December 2000.
• The Ryans live in his home town of Janesville in a large colonial on the block where Paul Ryan, 42, was raised, surrounded by his extended family.

Janna?s Family?s Democratic Connection

• Her uncle, David Boren, is a former Democratic governor and now president of the University of Oklahoma.
• Janna?s grandfather also ran for governor and started a law firm in the town where her father, Dan Little, still works, according to the Daily Oklahoman.
• Rep. Dan Boren (D-Okla.) is her first cousin.
• In 1967, her grandfather and a group began planning for the formation of a third political party to push the candidacy of former Alabama Gov. George Wallace for president.
• When Janna Ryan?s mother died in 2010, she inherited a trust fund worth between $1 million and $5 million, according to Rep. Paul Ryan?s financial disclosure forms.
