-Describe the company/business :
This is a Japanese company with subsidiaries around the world. My office is located in Sunrise, FL. Our subsidiary main activity is to distribute duplicating equipment to Latin America.
-Primary job responsibilities:
Financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting, inventory planning and accounting.
-What communication activities are included in the job responsibilities? (Attending meetings, writing reports, presenting information, promoting the company?s products/services and image, explaining and clarifying management procedures, coordinating the work of various employees/departments, and evaluating employees)
Attending lots of meeting, prepare power point presentations on a quarterly basis, documenting accounting and finance policies and procedures, explaining financial variance to local and overseas management.
-How much of the work day is spent on communication?
Depending on the month. At the end of the quarter I can spend 50-75% time of my job writing reports and e-mails. A regular month it might take 25%.
-Which communication activities take up the most time?
E-mails, based on frequency.
-Which communication activities take up the least time?
Phone conversations.
-What strategies do they use when they have to deliver bad news ? to other employees, to customers?
Usually meetings and conference calls.
-Has the company/business done anything to improve communication ? in the workplace, with clientele?
No, as far as I know.
-Describe the worst communication breakdown and how it was handled:
N/A
-Share your funniest work-related story:
We are all from different countries in Latin America. This makes communications in Spanish a littel confusing. Even though we speak the same language some words do not mean the same thing.
-Share five communication tips for a college student about to graduate and get out in the real world?
Do not waste teammate?s time while working.
Identify when details are necessary.
Focus on your audience while writing or talking, they might not be as prepared as you on a specific topic.
Be honest and open
Respect others opinion and let others participate in a discussion while keeping the control of the conversation.
