One in every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime with devastating consequences for the victims, their families, and society as a whole. The Verizon Foundation, through a program called Your Voice Counts, is educating people on how they can help prevent, and one day, end, domestic violence. Your Voice Counts, is a collaborative project with the Joyful Heart Foundation, A CALL TO MEN and NO MORE. The following five ways to speak up against domestic violence, are courtesy of Your Voice Counts.

1. Call 911
2. Be vocal
3. Teach youth
4. Ask women
5. Get help
Don?t think of domestic violence as a private matter. If you think someone is in danger, call 911. You can connect someone in need to resources like the National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233). Verizon Wireless customers can dial #HOPE to be connected to the Hotline. ?Speak out against disrespectful language and behavior and talk to your children about respect and healthy relationships. Ask women about their experiences. And don?t be afraid to get help. Just be smart about it. Computer use can be monitored. If you are afraid your computer usage might be monitored, use a safer computer or call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1?800?799?SAFE(7233) or TTY 1?800?787?3224.
